The streetscapes of Kyoto first caught our attention, its never-ending layers of surprise had us in love. This city awakens the senses and leads you to a journey within.
A machiya is a traditional wooden townhouse. Our first restored home captures the house's original character, a quiet evolution that keeps its history close.
Original wood beams and clay walls exposed. A skylight and open staircase flood the home with natural light.

Kyoto architect Uoya Shigenori is an expert in machiya restoration. The original wood beams and parts of the clay wall construction are exposed throughout the home, traditional craft, kept visible.
A skylight and open staircase were added to flood the home with natural light, evolving the house from a darker pre-war typology into something brighter without breaking its frame.

We don't want our homes to be defined by a particular style. Design here is not about being edgy or loud, we want the home to feel cozy and timeless, the kind of place you'd want to stay for a week.
