Tucked away in a quiet eastern Kyoto neighbourhood, Maana Kiyomizu is three individual machiya suites, serene, light-filled, and artfully intimate.
An unexpected approach to machiya stays: deep soaking tubs, queen beds, and Maana Living's Japanese artisanal crafts in every room.
Coming home means walking past the café and the Maana Living shop. All three suites, side by side.

View Suite 3 →An intimate studio on the second floor, above the café, reached by stairs only. A minimalist open layout holds a deep soaking tub and a sofa, with views of greenery and the thatched rooftops of Toyokuni Shrine.
Ideal for solo travelers or couples who travel light.
The largest of the three. A contemporary machiya layout that resolves an old form for modern travel: a modern tokonoma holding a single seasonal flower, an open kitchen running the length of the entry, and a hand-wrapped tatami guest room that feels softer underfoot.
The bathtub is a single sculpted piece in Shigaraki ware, glazed in a deep ash. Two bedrooms sleeping four, with room to spread out. The right choice for small families and couples traveling together.
The first floor holds an open modern living room and an oversized dining counter.
A small room beside the master bedroom on the second floor is wrapped from ceiling to floor in Japanese washi by artisan Hatano Wataru, a cocoon of soft light. A Shigaraki bathtub and a walk-in shower complete the suite.
Each suite includes a clothes steamer and hair dryer.
Maana Atelier is a short ride away. Book a workshop during your stay: tea-dyeing, koji fermentation, earthen wall, or a botanical tea session. Bring a small piece of Kyoto home with you.
